David was one of history's most fierce and capable warriors. And he did NOT have any formal training as a soldier when he first came to the battlefield. Instead his physical prowess came from a lot of time training (in unique ways) all alone in beautiful green pastures while herding his family's sheep.
Many people don't realize that before David slew Goliath, he killed both Lions and Bears when they came to prey on his family's precious sheep. You can read the story in 1 Samuel 17 in the Bible to see for yourself.
What do you think happens if a Lion or a Bear learns where to find an easy meal anytime it's in the mood for a little lamb. If David couldn't stop a Lion or a Bear, you can bet his sheep would have disappeared faster than beer and burgers at a tailgate party. And he sure didn't use a gun 3,000 years ago.
Take a moment and imagine if you had to defend yourself and your family's pets from an oncoming Lion or Bear - and you didn't have a gun. What would you do?
I believe David transformed his body into the ultimate athletic fighting machine because
he had the time, the tools (rope and staff), and the motivation.
Think how much incentive you'd have to train in the most effective manner possible if you really had to take on a hungry Lion or Bear. This is what David had to deal with.
The take home message is David used his brains to maximize the effectiveness of his body – and boy was he effective with his body! Visualizing myself in his shoes was what led me to discover the Both Sides Utilized Training techniques I use today.
After training the past two years the way I THINK David would have trained (using Both Sides Utilized principles), what I have experienced in my body - my movement capabilities, my athletic improvement, and my ability to use my body so effectively for self-defense - has been nothing short of amazing. So amazing that I now BELIEVE David Must have trained in similar fashion, (probably for a lot longer than I've done so thus far) to possess the confidence and physical prowess to take on and defeat not just a LION, but also a BEAR, and of course a GIANT named Goliath.
When you become a member of my virtual gym and train with me, you will discover how to Utilize Both Sides of your body using two of the same training tools David used - the rope (in his case, a shepherd's sling which is essentially a length of rope with a pouch near the middle) and the staff.
I will teach you how to use these these tools to lay a Both Sides Utilized foundation in your body. The fundamental movements you learn will “program” incredibly valuable muscle memory into your hands, and with practice, the rest of your body.
I'm certainly not saying you'll be able to go around killing Lions or Bears any time soon. But I am saying you can be Twice the physical force and Twice the athlete you are today with this kind of training under your belt.
As a member, I will also share with you the valuable lessons I've learned over many, many years I've spent in pursuit of better balance, better movement, and a better body. I am constantly exploring when I exercise. As a member, you will get to see what I'm working on as it develops. In other words, you will learn what I know and what I continue to discover.
While I personally practice and explore the martial aspect of BOSU Training – which involves some risk, (like hitting yourself with a rope or a stick), you certainly don’t have to get as extreme as I do to experience tremendous benefits from Both Sides Utilized Training.
My wife Jen is a good example of someone who uses my Both Sides Utilized strategies for exercise without suffering the bumps and bruises I am willing to put up with.
Either way, Both Sides Utilized is the way to go!
